Fostering communion, bearing witness

Through its various departments, the organization supports the Church's mission by facilitating dialogue, promoting social justice, and encouraging evangelization efforts that resonate with the unique cultural and spiritual realities of the continent. By strengthening the bonds of communion between local churches, CELAM helps ensure that the voices of Latin American and Caribbean Catholics are heard within the broader universal Church, contributing to a richer, more inclusive ecclesial life that reflects the diversity and vitality of the region.

The Communication Department of CELAM plays an essential role in amplifying the Church's message across Latin America and the Caribbean, using modern media tools to build bridges between the institution and the communities it serves. A Note on the Evidence

A continental body, locally rooted

CELAM brings together the bishops of Latin America and the Caribbean in a common assembly. Its structure — a presidency, a general secretariat, seven departments, and three schools (Theological, Biblical, and Social) — reflects both the breadth of the region and the depth of its pastoral concerns.

From its headquarters in Bogotá, the Communication Department supports the work of the Conferences through media, archives, and ongoing coverage of the Church's life across the continent.
